Rollforming Services’ Telescopic Panels have been used to create smooth curved walls for the interior of the KPMG building in Wellington.
The smooth organic curves that grace the interior of the KPMG offices in Wellington may appear to be handcrafted at first, but they are, in fact, a remarkable demonstration of the imaginative use of roll-formed steel.
By thinking beyond the “steel box” and fully grasping the versatility of our Telescopic Panel technology, the contractor achieved these remarkable results using roll-formed steel.
- 2-level office fit out
- Multiple curved panels
- Vertical and horizontal telescopic framing
When the architects behind the KPMG fit-out asked if Rollforming Services (RFS) could create a curved wall, the answer was a simple “yes”. By using smart software, you can easily model the complex geometry required and push out the boundaries of your steel construction.
To create these full-height adjustable curved walls, our X-TENDA™ 3600 telescopic machines were programmed to produce top and bottom plates that follow the exact curve of the architectural model by overlapping the punching holes. Frames were telescopic and diagonally braced with door frames placed in specific panels. Horizontal telescoping was also used to bring the frame to the facade and take up the slack.
According to the contractor this project involved the most prefabricated and templated construction they had ever used, but it was a seamless operation. The RFS-supplied steel stud walls were manufactured and assembled offsite and delivered as completed sections, coordinated to time with services being installed.
