SHEDIT directors Alan Hockly and Giles Bayley speak proudly of their company’s mission to build what individual customers are after “and not squeeze them in” to plans that may suit others. Delivering solutions in the habitable shed area is also a focus and from this HOUSEIT was born. HOUSEIT offers relocatable, energy efficient, prefabricated PIR panel homes and studio units, designed with modern, healthy living and affordability in mind.

Giles tells how HOUSEIT was created with principally young, first-home buyers in mind.

“We realised affordability of housing in New Zealand was going in the wrong direction for young people, so we went out and found a product and designed and developed a whole new building system in response.”

The dwellings’ affordability and energy-efficiency are also appealing to superannuants, he adds.

The beauty of the RFS Bird Proof Purlins

Using light steel manufacturing technology, RFS Bird Proof Purlins are designed with ready-made smooth surfaces, minus any lips or channels on which birds could perch.

Birds are recognised as a nuisance, especially to sheds being used commercially, due to the related dirt and health hazards. Bird-proofing also helps meet hygiene requirements in food manufacturing.

The Bird Proof Purlins are manufactured with high tensile, Z450 galvanised coated steel (also available in a range of colours, with a powder coated finish). They arrive onsite, already cut to length, ready to be installed, so there is no wastage and build time is much faster.

The purlins’ symmetrical shape not only has improved strength but also removes the need for restraints. They sit between rafters, instead of on top, like other purlins and this is beneficial as it reduces the rolling of the section under load and lowers overall build height, which is ideal in tight building zones. RFS Bird Proof Purlins feature the strength of light steel (which can withstand extra high wind and snow loads) and longer spans, of up to 10m, which offer more design options.
